Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a common pathogen worldwide that causes both acute and chronic viral hepatitis, primarily transmitted via the fecal–oral route and associated with related clinical manifestations. China is a high‑incidence area for hepatitis E, with an overall prevalence of 7.2%, and infection rates are higher in rural than in urban settings. The “Expert Consensus on In‑Hospital Screening and Management Procedures for Hepatitis E in China (2023 Edition)” states: “Hepatitis E test reports must clearly present results for anti‑HEV antibodies and HEV RNA. For cases positive for HVE‑IgM, it is recommended to perform additional testing for HEV RNA; all eligible individuals should be screened, and any positive results must be promptly reported to the hospital’s medical affairs department.”
