On September 16, Chongqing Municipality confirmed one imported case of monkeypox, marking the first such case detected in mainland China since the current outbreak began. The case was tested by the Chongqing Center for Disease Control and Prevention and subsequently verified by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention; all reagents used were manufactured by Beijing Jinhao Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. Laboratory results showed positive for monkeypox virus nucleic acid, and a panel of national experts diagnosed the case as a confirmed case of monkeypox.

On June 24, Taiwan, China reported the first imported case of monkeypox in mainland China; on September 6, Hong Kong identified its first imported case. With the recent confirmed case in Chongqing, three regions in China have now recorded cases of monkeypox. Recently, Gao Fu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, published an analysis noting that most of the population in China has not been vaccinated against smallpox and thus lacks immune protection against the monkeypox virus. At present, it is recommended to curb person-to-person transmission of monkeypox through early detection and diagnosis, as well as by implementing isolation measures and contact tracing whenever possible.

The World Health Organization’s latest report indicates that, from January 1 to September 15, a total of 60,320 confirmed cases and 525 suspected cases of monkeypox were reported across 103 WHO member states. Among these countries, the United States has the highest number of confirmed cases worldwide, and this week it also confirmed its first-ever death from monkeypox.

Beijing Jinhao Pharmaceutical’s monkeypox virus nucleic acid detection kit (fluorescent PCR method) obtained EU CE certification on May 25 this year, providing robust support for the rapid detection of the monkeypox virus. Adhering to the corporate mission of “Pursuing Excellence, Serving Society,” the company is committed to advancing human health, helping humanity stay free from disease and enjoy good health.
